His stellar steady progression rise to the top of the league in Hollywood was not his first top careers for Armin Mueller-Stahl. After over 50 years in front of the camera, Armin Mueller-Stahl can look back on many triumphs: He acted his way to the top in the GDR, in DEFA films like “Jacob the Liar“. He is praised and showered with awards and in 1975 he is named GDR television actor of the year. After he leaves the GDR for the Federal Republic his second career begins. In the eighties he works with directors like
Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Costa Cavras. With barely a word of English he moves to the USA at the end of the eighties. One of his first roles is in Jim Jarmusch’s cult film “Night on Earth”, where – with wonderful authenticity – he starrs as a taxi driver from the GDR. Now, several Oscar nominations later, Armin Mueller-Stahl lives in Pacific Palisades, California, and is one of the very few German actors to have made it in Hollywood.
