It is a tale of ideals and convictions and of betrayal. Richard Sorge fought against Hitler and National Socialism out of conviction; he was the master spy in the service of anti-facism. And precisely that was why Stalin mistrusted him. He was a loose cannon; he loved the danger, and was a man who loved women. And for these reasons Stalin also mistrusted him, disregarding the messages sent by his master spy.

Richard Sorge could not only be the inspiration for Daniel Craig’s “James Bond”, in a manner of speaking, he is. Which is why this historical documentary is also a thriller about loyalty, belief, betrayal and love.
