A road movie – taken by car and on foot. Searching for the spiritual heart of China.
Does the spiritual heart of China still exist despite being visited by countless millions of people every year? Do the mountains still have a soul? And do they still hold a significance for the Chinese – the younger generation in particular? The most mysterious and most sacred sacrifice in ancient China was practiced on a mountain peak because it was believed that the space between heaven and earth was an occult opening. And to this day, the Chinese continue to worship mountains in their everyday lives.
Why do millions of people travel here every year and struggle to the peaks? Has the spiritual heart been lost in this hugely populated country? Or can a sublime aura still be felt on the mountain peaks?
