This series is about THE CITY OF THE FUTURE, about models of what a high-density, smart city could/should look like. The 3 episodes of this series present metropolises, that are role models (as in New York and Copenhagen); or how, as in Tokyo and Shenzhen, to experiment, in order to remain live-able.

This series is not primarily about impressive architectural projects, but about urban models that focus on the smart city of the 21st century and assume, as in New York, that their model will be exemplary for many metropolises and megacities in Asia and America.

It is an existential problem of our civilization. Civilization progress is decided in the conurbations, in the big cities, urban planning and architecture are the physical embodiments of social, social, economic processes and changes. Moving into the metropolises is a fact of civilization, it can neither be stopped nor put on hold. So cities have to react to it, they have to offer space and urban models. That's what this series is about. It is therefore more contemporary history than culture. Or it is about the both: urban culture of the 21st century as one of the contemporary historical challenges of our time.
